| The
object of this organization shall be: (1) to sponsor and
promote civic planting of dogwood trees; (2) to stimulate
knowledge of gardening and the beautification of the City;
(3) to encourage the active participation of City residents
in the improvement of natural plantings; (4) to increase
the City’s appreciation of the development of home
grounds; (5) to sponsor the annual City of Vestavia Hills
Dogwood Festival; (6) to sponsor the Vestavia Hills Belles;
and (7) to serve as the official hosts for the City of Vestavia
Hills. Membership consists of members appointed by
the Mayor for 1, 2, 3 or 4 year terms. |

Compensation: none, although State law allows board
members to receive up to $600 per month as compensation
in accordance with Act Number 2000-123, which amends

1975, it is vested with all the powers necessary or
proper for the administration and management of the
free public schools within the City of Vestavia Hills. |

members who serve on call of the chairman in absence

Powers: To authorize upon appeal in specific cases
such variances from the terms of an ordinance that
will not be contrary to the public interest, where,

unnecessary hardship. In addition, to hear appeals
from decisions of municipal administrative officers
relating to the application of the municipal zoning
ordinance and regulations and to authorize uses permitted
on appeal and special exceptions. |

Parks
and Recreation Board

A.
Composition: Seven members
1. The Mayor
2. One member of City
Council appointed by Mayor as ex-officio member
3-7. Five other members appointed by City Council.
Ordinance Number 597 provides that non-voting representatives
from the following leagues shall serve for a period
of one (1) year and join in discussions with the Board;
football, baseball, basketball, swimming, tennis and
any other league that may be formed and requested
to sit with the Board only after approval of the Council. |

Powers: The Board shall be responsible for the direction,
supervision and promotion of such recreation programs
as will contribute to the general welfare of the residents
