C.E.R.T. Training
C.E.R.T. is a unique training opportunity that Vestavia Hills Fire Department offers to the community. C.E.R.T. stands for community emergency response team.
The purpose of C.E.R.T. is to prepare the community for a disaster. These classes teach how to help your family and community during a disaster.
During a disaster, emergency resources will likely be overwhelmed. C.E.R.T. members are able to assist the community when emergency resources are not available.
C.E.R.T. training teaches how to prepare homes and families for the critical period following a disaster. Training for C.E.R.T. requires attending seven sessions that usually last three to four hours. Courses covered include: emergency preparedness, fire safety, emergency medical operations, light search and rescue, C.E.R.T. organization, disaster psychology, and terrorism and C.E.R.T. The training concludes with a disaster simulation that tests all of the material covered during class.
Vestavia Hills Fire Department tries to provide C.E.R.T. training twice a year. Currently the class for spring 2010 is full. If you are interested in attending a C.E.R.T. class, please call (205) 978-0225 and you will be placed on a waiting list. Classes are filled from the waiting list on a first come first serve basis.
