A Message From David Carrington, President of the Vestavia Hills City Council

On behalf of the Vestavia Hills City Council, it is my distinct honor to thank you for visiting our website. As you learn more about our city, you will soon understand why Vestavia Hills is frequently recognized as one of the best places to live in the United States of America. Our city has a top rated school system, one of the lowest crime rates in the country, informed and engaged citizens, and a breath-taking natural beauty.

The City Council’s primary objective is to shepherd an environment that builds a strong economic base, a superior school system, an unsurpassed quality of life, and a moral character beyond reproach.

Other than holidays, the Vestavia Hills City Council meets on the first and third Monday of each month and encourages citizen comments and questions at the end of each and every meeting.

When and where does the City Council meet?

The Vestavia Hills City Council consists of five (5) members, voted “at large” every four years. The Council meets the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month at 6:00 PM in the Council Chambers, Vestavia Hills Municipal Center located at 513 Montgomery Highway, Vestavia Hills, Alabama 35216.

Prior to each regular meeting, a work session begins at 5:00 PM in order to review the agenda for that evening and to discuss any other relevant business. The public is welcome at every meeting and work session of the City Council.

I want to address the City Council. Can I get on the City Council agenda?

The City Council welcomes citizen comments at the end of every regular public meeting. Any citizen recognized at that time may address the City Council.

In order to appear on the City Council Agenda, application must be sent to the City Council President in care of the Acting City Clerk (Rebecca Leavings), either by e-mail or regular mail. The postal address is: Office of the City Clerk, 513 Montgomery Highway, Vestavia Hills, Alabama 35216. Application to appear on the City Council agenda must be submitted by 12:00 PM the Wednesday prior to the regularly scheduled City Council meeting.

How do I get copies of the City Council Agendas and Minutes?

Minutes of past City Council meetings are located in the Office of the City Clerk and are available for public inspection. Copies are available at a cost of 25 cents a page. Unsigned recent minutes may be transmitted in digital format upon request.
