Water Emergency

[The City is in a Stage 2 Drought Watch and all water conservation is voluntary.]

To learn more, go to the Birmingham Water Works Board's website

On September 19, the City learned that the Birmingham Water Works Board officially lowered the drought condition to a Stage 2, Drought Watch. The move to Stage 2 level ends the declaration of a water emergency and the City will no longer enforce the provisions of Ordinance Number 2194-B mandating watering restrictions and fining violators. Surcharges on water consumed after a certain date are no longer in effect.

Please be advised that should the BWWB move back to a Stage 3 Drought Warning, the provisions of Ordinance Number 2194-B will again be enforced by the Vestavia Hills Police Department.

The BWWB gives suggestions for voluntary preservation in Stage 2 Drought Watch (see their website) to hopefully prevent moving back to a Stage 3. Please keep apprised of any changes as we proceed through the remaining dry months this fall and winter. Any changes in the Water Emergency Status will be posted on the City Website as soon as the information is released by the Birmingham Water Works Board.
