The City of Vestavia Hills is one of the safest cities in Alabama with one of the lowest crime rates (click this link to see the latest figures). The Police Department takes pride in serving and protecting this community, and we look forward to assisting you. The Vestavia Hills Police Department operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week from two locations within the city. The West Precinct serves the largest section of the City and is located in the Municipal Complex at 513 Montgomery Highway. The East Precinct serves the Cahaba Heights and Liberty Park sections of Vestavia Hills, and is located at 3241 Cahaba Heights Road. Below are some important Police telephone numbers:

The following link will take you to a Medical Alert Form. This form is designed to assist the Police and Fire Departments in meeting your needs. If you or someone at your address has a special medical need, please follow the instructions on the enclosed form, fill in the pertinent information, and submit the completed form to the Vestavia Hills Police Department.

We are also providing a form for the business owners in Vestavia Hills. The purpose of this form is to assist the Vestavia Hills Police and Fire Departments in the event of an incident or emergency at your place of business. For the Police and the Fire Department to have this information is particularly important if the incident or emergency occurs after hours. Organization of the Vestavia Hills Police Department

The Police Department is organized in three Divisions:

Administrative Division

This division is under the direction of Lieutenant Tim Holcomb. It consists of the following three sections:

The Records Section:

Recording, archiving, and maintaining all official police reports. The Uniform Crime Reports required by the F.B.I and the Alabama Criminal Justice System is prepared by this section.


The Communication/Dispatch Section:

This section is under the joint direction of the Vestavia Hills Police -and Fire Departments. The section is responsible for routing all emergency and service calls for the City of Vestavia Hills. Dispatchers provide computer searches for wanted fugitives and stolen property. They retrieve information from the National Crime Information Center and the Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center. They also enter missing and wanted persons, stolen property, and bulletins into these systems.


The D.A.R.E./S.R.O. Section:

Police Officers in this section teach Vestavia Hills students about the law, conflict resolution, the dangers of drug, alcohol, and tobacco use and help to create a safer environment in which to learn.

Investigations Division

Patrol Division

The Patrol Division is divided in two precincts:

  1. The West Precinct is headquartered at City Hall and is commanded by Lt. David Whitfield.
  2. The East Precinct is headquartered in Cahaba Heights and is commanded by Lt. Rick Miller.
