How
do I get a vehicle out of impound?
| A
vehicle that has been towed due to an arrest, or a suspended
or revoked license, can be released if the following conditions
are met: |
| 1.
The registered owner must be present. |
| 2.
The registered owner must have proof of ownership (current
tag receipt or title). |
| 3.
The registered owner must have a current drivers license,
or be accompanied by someone who does. |
|
4.
If required, the registered owner must have a release
from the investigating officer.
|
|
If
the proof of ownership is in the vehicle, the registered
owner may stop by the impound site (Pro Tow) and retrieve
it from the vehicle before coming to secure the release
papers, or call them (205-985-7177) and request the paperwork
be faxed to the police department.
Once
you have met the above requirements, you will receive
a yellow release form that you must take to the impound
site (Pro Tow) to have the car released. Please, note
that the wrecker service charges towing and storage fees
that you will have to pay them. You may call Pro Tow at
(205) 985-7177.
The
Police Clerk's office is open from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Monday
through Friday. Vehicles will only be released during
these times. If you have any questions you may call the
Police Clerk's office at (205) 978-0124.
A
vehicle that has been towed from an accident scene will
be at the Pro Tow site unless the owner gave different
instructions following the accident. To retrieve a towed
accident vehicle you do not have to obtain a release from
the Police Department. Please, proceed directly to Pro
Tow. Remember, towing and storage charges are the owner's
responsibility. The address for Pro Tow is:
